Location: Just off Anstey Park in Alton, Hampshire
Working hours: 7.45 am – 6.15pm, 4 days per week, on a year-round basis.
​
Essential for the role:

A clear and current enhanced DBS, on the renewal system

NVQ Level 3 in childcare, or equivalent

An inspirational and fair team leader

Ability to respect and enforce confidentiality

Previous experience in other nursery(s)

Excellent knowledge of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage)

The role:
Leading the Team
-
Next in charge when Manager / Deputy not present, which can include opening and closing of the Nursery, safeguarding / emergencies / dealing with customer enquiries / complaints. Ensuring all processes, risk assessments and routines are respected through the day.
-
To create a positive team culture. To guide, inspire, support, train, and lead your team effectively, providing a positive work environment for all, using initiative, sharing information and being flexible whenever necessary.
-
To oversee an effective key worker system, supporting the team in ensuring the observations, assessments and various other reports are kept up to date and are completed termly with parental meetings with key workers for each child every term.
-
Organisation of regular informal training to ensure team members are knowledgeable about the policies, procedures, legislation and other pertinent information in regard to their roles.
-
Responsibility for risk assessments and safety checks, ensuring that these are completed and reviewed to keep them current and valid, with all relevant administrative information completed in a timely manner.
-
Regular fire / evacuation and invacuation drills completed with the supporting reports completed.
-
Termly 1-2-1s completed for the team, and reporting back to management of the discussions.
-
Ensuring that the staff and children’s registers are completed accurately on a daily basis (signing in and out).
-
Responsibility for nursery resources – enforcing respect for them to reduce damage, organised correctly and in right places.

To create inspirational room set ups and displays with attention to detail

Responsible for tidiness of all rooms / decluttered / correctly organised

To lead by example:

Be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to always uphold its standards. To be an ambassador for the nursery both within the nursery and in the wider community.

To respect and maintain confidentiality in relation to children, families, team and the nursery.

Working with others and in partnership

Be able to work autonomously with a can-do attitude.

Work closely with other team members and professionals.

To attend management meetings and to join in team meetings, open days, training days, other nursery events and parent consultations, sometimes outside normal working hours when necessary and to keep abreast of current issues.

A key person to some of the children. To build a positive and close partnership with the children and their grown-ups. To track key children on the EYFS, to know their abilities and next steps. Update the learning journals and keep their grown-ups informed as well as your line manager.

As with everyone at the nursery, understanding that work patterns may change ad hoc or from time to time according to nursery needs to meet ratio requirements and leadership cover.

Ensuring effective processes are implemented or in place and followed, so nursery and children’s routines and needs are met.

To ensure your specific duties regarding Health and Safety, fire procedures, risk assessments, tracking etc are understood and actioned.

To ensure all records are kept up to date and administration is regularly completed.

To take reasonable care of yourself and others and to comply with the Health and Safety rules.

To carry out any ad hoc projects or duties as requested by your Line Manager.

Use your experience and knowledge to strive for continuous improvement within the nursery.
The role - Children’s activities - Work with the team to:
-
Create inspirational activities for the children, tailored to their next steps and interests and in preparation for transition into their next room in nursery or into school.
-
Ensure these activities are created in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, Setting the Standards for Learning, Development and Care for children from birth to five, ensuring they meet with the Early Learning Goals and in line with current nursery themes.
-
Set up / prepare and clear resources – nursery to be clean and tidy at the end of the day, set up with all areas of EYFS resources and with children’s interests and next steps in mind. Nursery clearing and cleaning at the end of the day, including the kitchen area, entrance, nap-time linen, toilets and bins and surface areas decluttered.

Assist with mealtimes and other routine activities.
